About PNG to ICO
PNG to ICO builds the icon files Windows uses for programs, shortcuts and folders, and that browsers read as favicon.ico. An ICO holds several sizes of the same picture, so Windows can show a sharp icon in the taskbar, on the desktop and in file lists alike. Upload a PNG, JPG or SVG, or several at once for an .ico each, and choose which sizes go in. A WebP image can be turned into a PNG first with WebP to PNG.
Icon sizes starts with all seven selected, 16, 24, 32, 48, 64, 128 and 256; tap a size to leave it out, and at least one always stays. Trim empty margins, on by default, cuts an empty transparent border away first, so the icon fills its square instead of floating in the middle of it. A picture that isn't square is centered on a square with see-through edges instead of being squashed, and the small sizes, 16 to 48 pixels, are sharpened so they don't look blurry in the taskbar or on browser tabs. Which sizes are made is judged by the picture as you uploaded it, so a 256-pixel logo with a see-through margin still gets its 256-pixel icon, its content trimmed and filled into the square. Sizes larger than the uploaded picture are left out rather than blurred up, and the result says which ones, so start from 256 pixels or more to get every size up to 256. An SVG is drawn at 512 pixels, so every size comes out sharp from an SVG of any size. For a complete set of website icons with the HTML to paste, try Favicon Generator.
