About GIF to WebP
GIF to WebP is a quick win for anyone with animations on a website. A GIF of a few seconds can weigh several megabytes and slow a page down. WebP stores the same animation with modern compression, and every current browser plays it. Still images can move to WebP as well, with the converters in Image Converter.
Each frame keeps its original timing and transparency, and the WebP loops continuously. Two settings decide the result. Quality, 90 by default, controls lossy compression, which suits clips made from video or photos. Lossless keeps every pixel and often wins on flat-color art such as stickers, icons and screen recordings, where lossy WebP can even come out bigger than the GIF. If one mode disappoints, convert again with the other.
How to use GIF to WebP
- 1Upload your GIF
Click Choose file or drop the .gif on the page. Animated and still GIFs both work.
- 2Choose lossy or lossless
Set Quality for lossy compression, or tick Lossless to keep every pixel.
- 3Click GIF to WebP
Our server re-encodes each frame in an isolated process, with the original frame timing.
- 4Download the WebP
Use it on your site in an ordinary img tag, just like the GIF it replaces.
Why use Cubfile for this
- Timing kept
Every frame keeps its own display time, so the animation plays at the speed it always did.
- Transparency supported
See-through areas in the GIF stay see-through in the WebP.
- Lossy or lossless
Pick lossy for clips and photos or lossless for flat graphics, depending on which gives the smaller file.
- Still GIFs too
A single-frame GIF becomes a still WebP image.
