About JPG to PNG
JPG to PNG is the step to take before editing. Every time a JPG is saved it gets compressed again, and small blocky artifacts build up around edges and text. A PNG copy is lossless, so you can crop, annotate and re-save it in any editor without that creeping loss. Design tools and upload forms that ask for PNG accept it right away. HEIC photos from an iPhone can go straight to lossless PNG with HEIC to PNG.
Converting can't bring back detail the JPG already threw away, and the PNG will usually be larger than the original. Keep photo info (EXIF) is on by default, so camera and date details come along, and the DPI value stored in the JPG carries over too. Under More options you can resize the picture while it converts.
How to use JPG to PNG
- 1Choose your JPG
Click Choose file or drop a .jpg or .jpeg file on the page. It uploads over HTTPS.
- 2Decide on photo info
Leave Keep photo info (EXIF) on to carry camera details over, or turn it off. Resize options sit under More options.
- 3Click JPG to PNG
Our server decodes the JPG and writes a lossless PNG in an isolated process.
- 4Save the PNG
Download the file, which keeps its original name, so photo.jpg becomes photo.png.
Why use Cubfile for this
- Lossless from here on
Edits and re-saves no longer add compression artifacts, which matters for images you'll keep working on.
- Camera details kept
Camera model, date taken and location stay in the PNG unless you switch them off.
- Resize on the way
Set a width or a height, fit the image in a box or scale it by percentage during the conversion.
- Same DPI
The resolution value stored in the JPG goes into the PNG, so print dimensions don't change.
