Changing the format
ASS to SRT removes styling tags so plain players show clean lines. SRT to VTT makes WebVTT captions for HTML5 video, and VTT to SRT goes back for editors and TVs. YouTube's SBV, DFXP or TTML captions and SMI files convert to SRT as well, and LRC lyrics turn into SRT and back. Each converter detects the text encoding first, so Chinese, Japanese or Cyrillic lines come out readable.
Fixing what's wrong
Fix Garbled Subtitles detects encodings such as GB18030, Big5, Shift_JIS and UTF-16 and saves the file as UTF-8. Shift Subtitles moves every line earlier or later, matches two lines to cure drift, or converts between frame rates such as 23.976 and 25. Merge Subtitles combines two languages into one SRT, or into an ASS file with a style for each.
Editing and transcripts
The Subtitle Editor runs in your browser, so you can play the video and type, time and correct lines one by one. SRT to Text turns subtitles into a readable transcript as TXT or DOCX, with or without timecodes. Extract Subtitles from Video is coming soon.
Where the work happens
The converters run on our server, with uploads over HTTPS and files deleted an hour after the task. Subtitle files are small, so the free 50 MB limit is rarely a concern, and the editor never uploads your video.
