TAR.GZ to ZIP
TAR.GZ to ZIP takes TAR, TGZ, TAR.GZ, BZ2 and XZ archives, the kind you get from Linux servers, source-code downloads and backups, and repacks everything as ZIP. The folder structure and the original file dates carry over, and names are stored in UTF-8, so Chinese or Cyrillic file names stay readable. Choose a compression level from No compression, which is fastest, to Maximum, which gives the smallest file.
Optional password
Type a password for the new ZIP and it's encrypted with AES-256 in the WinZip format. 7-Zip, WinRAR, Bandizip and The Unarchiver open it, but the viewer built into Windows doesn't, so leave the password empty when the recipient uses a plain Windows PC.
RAR, 7Z and ISO
RAR to ZIP, 7Z to ZIP and ISO to ZIP are coming soon. They'll open password-protected RAR and 7Z archives when you know the password, and take the files out of a disc image without mounting or burning it. To look inside an archive and download single files, use Unzip Online in the Archive & Security Tools category, which already opens ZIP, RAR, 7Z and TAR.
What happens to the archive
Uploads travel over HTTPS, the repacking runs in an isolated process, and both the original and the ZIP are deleted automatically an hour later.
