About Add Page Numbers
Add page numbers to a PDF such as a thesis, a contract bundle or a merged set of scans so people can say "see page 14" and mean the same page. Pick one of six spots and a style: 1, Page 1, Page 1 of 10, 1 / 10, - 1 -, or Your own wording, where {n} is the number and {total} the last number, as in Page {n} of {total}. Bates number (legal) stamps a prefix plus a fixed number of digits, such as ABC000001, the way legal documents and evidence are numbered. Bates numbering is a VIP option. Numerals switches to i, ii, iii or I, II, III for a preface or other front matter.
Skip the first page leaves the cover blank, and Start at number sets where the count begins. Under More options you'll also find Color, Distance from edge and Pages to number, which limits numbering to a range such as 3- and counts from the first page listed. Mirror on facing pages (outer corners, for two-sided printing) flips a corner number from side to side: with Bottom right, it sits right on odd pages and left on even ones. White box behind the number (scans) keeps it readable on scanned or dark pages. Upload several files and tick Number all files in one run to carry the count on from one file to the next in upload order. Before you send the result, look it over in PDF Reader.
