About Remove Document Metadata
Remove document metadata before a file goes to a client, a court, a publisher or the public. Office files quietly record who wrote them, the company name, when they were created and how long they were edited, and Word keeps every tracked change and comment. A contract sent with a deleted clause still sitting in its revision history is the classic mistake this prevents.
Pick what to clear: comments, tracked changes, macros, and author, company and other properties. Tracked changes are accepted, so the text reads as it does now, without the redline. For Excel, the folder the file was last saved in is removed too; for PDFs, document info, annotations and scripts. Macro-enabled files are saved as plain DOCX, XLSX or PPTX.
How to use Remove Document Metadata
- 1Upload the file
Click Choose file or drop a DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, macro-enabled Office file or PDF.
- 2Choose what to clear
Comments, Tracked changes, Macros and Author, company and other properties are all ticked. Untick anything you want to keep.
- 3Click the button
Press Remove Document Metadata. A summary lists how many comments, changes and properties were removed.
- 4Download the clean copy
It keeps its name, or gets a .docx, .xlsx or .pptx ending if macros were removed.
Why use Cubfile for this
- Tracked changes resolved
Insertions are kept, deletions are dropped and Track Changes is switched off, so no earlier wording survives.
- Names and dates cleared
Author, last modified by, company, manager, template, editing time and dates are removed from the file's properties.
- Comments gone everywhere
Word comments, Excel notes and threaded comments, and PowerPoint comments disappear along with their author lists.
- PDFs too
Title, author and XMP metadata, annotations and embedded JavaScript are stripped, while links and form fields stay.
