About Extract Images from Office

Extract images from Office files when you need the photos from a report someone sent, the product shots from a price list in Excel or the pictures from a colleague's slides. Right-clicking and choosing Save as Picture works one image at a time and may not give you the original; this saves them all at once, byte for byte as they're stored in the file. Other jobs on Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, such as merging, splitting and comparing, are in Word, Excel & PPT Tools.

Pictures come out in their own format, such as JPG, PNG, GIF or EMF, numbered in the order they're stored, like report_01.jpg, and a picture used several times is saved once. Several images arrive together in a ZIP. Charts, SmartArt and shapes are drawn by Office rather than stored as pictures, so they aren't included.

FAQ

Extract Images from Office: questions and answers

Do images keep their quality when I extract images from Office files?
Yes. Each picture is copied out as stored in the document, not re-saved. If Office compressed a picture when the document was saved, that compressed version is what's stored and what you get. If all you need is a smaller presentation, Compress PowerPoint shrinks the photos inside it instead.
Why are some pictures missing?
Charts, SmartArt, shapes and text boxes aren't stored as pictures, so there's nothing to extract. Pictures inserted as links to outside files aren't inside the document either.
Can I extract images from Office documents in the old DOC or PPT format?
Not directly. Save them as DOCX, XLSX or PPTX first, then upload the new file.
What are the limits?
Free accounts can upload files up to 50 MB, 2 tasks a day, and visitors 2 tasks in total. VIP handles files up to 1 GB without a daily limit. If the file has no pictures, you're told so and the task doesn't count.
Is my document private?
Yes. It's uploaded over HTTPS, processed in an isolated process and deleted with the extracted images after one hour.
