About Office Viewer

This Office viewer opens Word, Excel and PowerPoint files on devices that can't: a Chromebook, a phone, a library computer or a Mac without Office. Drop the DOCX, XLSX or PPTX, or an older DOC, XLS or PPT, and its pages appear right here, ready to scroll. Jobs that normally need Office, such as merging, splitting or comparing files, are in Word, Excel & PPT Tools.

The file is converted on our server into pages that look like the printed document, which also means you can't edit it here. The pages then open in our PDF reader: search the whole document with every match highlighted, select and copy text, jump by page thumbnails, read in night mode, or print the document exactly as it looks, even on a computer without Office. Spreadsheets are laid out the way they'd print. To keep a copy, choose Download as PDF in the menu. CSV files and OpenDocument ODT, ODS and ODP files open too.

Office Viewer: questions and answers

Can I edit files in the Office viewer?
No. It's for reading, and the file is shown as pages, like a PDF. To change the text, use a word processor or convert the file with one of our tools. If you're reading two versions to spot differences, Compare Word marks every change for you.
Does the Office viewer work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. Open this page in your phone's browser, pick the attachment from Files or Downloads and read it on screen. Nothing is installed.
Can I print a Word or Excel file without Office?
Yes. Open it here and choose Print in the menu. The document prints the way it looks on screen, from any computer with a browser.
Does viewing a file count as a task?
Yes. Each file you open is converted on our server, so it uses one task, out of 2 in total for visitors and 2 a day on a free account, with files up to 50 MB. VIP has no daily limit.
Is my file stored after I open it in the Office viewer?
Only as long as needed. It's uploaded over HTTPS, converted in an isolated process and deleted, together with the PDF, after one hour.
