About Merge Word
Merge Word documents when a report comes back in chapters from different people, or when a portal wants one file instead of five. Add DOCX, DOC, ODT or RTF files, drag them into order and get a single DOCX. Each document goes in as its own section, with its page size, orientation, margins, header and footer. If the combined file is too big for the portal, Compress Word shrinks the pictures inside it.
The usual trouble with merging is clashing styles. A Word file can hold only one Normal style and one Heading 1, so the documents after the first often end up in its fonts. We write each file's own formatting onto its paragraphs, so a chapter set in Calibri stays in Calibri. Tick Each file’s name as a heading and every part opens with its file name as a Heading 1: Word's navigation pane then lists the files, and References → Table of Contents turns them into a contents page. By default each document starts on a new page, and an empty page where one document meets the next can be cleared with Delete Blank Pages in Word.
How to use Merge Word
- 1Add the Word files
Click Choose files or drop DOCX, DOC, ODT or RTF files on the page. A free account can merge up to 20 files at once, VIP up to 50.
- 2Put them in order
Drag the cards into the order you want, or press Sort by name. The file in position 1 opens the merged document.
- 3Check the options
Start each document on a new page is on by default. Tick Each file’s name as a heading for a document you can navigate file by file, and type a Name of the merged file under More options if you want one.
- 4Click Merge Word
The documents are joined in an isolated process, then you download one DOCX, called merged_ plus the first file's name unless you picked a name.
Why use Cubfile for this
- Each file keeps its look
Fonts, sizes, colors, alignment, indents and line spacing are written onto each document's paragraphs, so later files don't take on the first file's styles.
- Own page setup per document
Landscape pages, A3 sheets, margins, page numbering, headers and footers stay with the document they came from.
- A heading for every file
Each part can open with its file name as a Heading 1, so Word's navigation pane lists the files and a table of contents can be built from them.
- New page or run on
Keep Start each document on a new page for chapters, or switch it off so short notices follow each other on the same page.
