About Excel & CSV Cleaner

This Excel and CSV cleaner fixes the mess that bank portals, shop backends, online forms and shared sheets leave behind. SUM returns 0 because the amounts are text, VLOOKUP misses because of a trailing space or a full-width code, merged cells break sorting and filtering, and dates arrive as 2024/3/5 in one row and Mar 5, 2024 in the next. Upload the file, tick what to fix and download it cleaned. If the data arrives as several exports, Merge Excel can stack them into one sheet first.

Split merged cells and fill them in is on by default: every cell of a merged range gets its value, so sorting, filtering, pivot tables and VLOOKUP see real data. Full-width letters and digits such as ＡＢＣ１２３ can become ABC123 while Chinese punctuation stays as it is, and line breaks typed inside cells can become spaces. Text such as 1,234.50, $80 or 12.5% becomes a real number with a matching format, while codes like 007 and IDs longer than 15 digits stay text. With Unify date formats on, recognized dates become real dates shown as yyyy-mm-dd, and ambiguous ones like 05/06/2024 are left as they are. Formulas aren't touched, and the result counts every change.

    Click Choose file or drop an XLSX, XLS or CSV export. A CSV comes back as a CSV, saved as UTF-8 so Excel reads its characters correctly.

    Tick the fixes

    Split merged cells and fill them in, Trim extra spaces, Delete empty rows and Turn text numbers into real numbers are on by default. Add Delete empty columns, Unify date formats, Full-width letters and digits to normal (ＡＢＣ１２３ → ABC123) or Remove line breaks inside cells as needed.

    Under More options, Letter case can switch text to UPPER CASE, lower case or Title Case.

What does the Excel and CSV cleaner change in my file?
Only what you tick. Formula cells are left alone, hidden sheets are skipped, empty rows and columns are deleted the way Excel deletes them, and a summary on the result page lists how many cells were tidied, converted or removed. Duplicate rows aren't removed here; Remove Duplicates in Excel handles those.
Will it break product codes or ID numbers?
No. Values with a leading zero, like 00123, and digit strings longer than 15 characters, like ID or card numbers, stay as text, because Excel would lose digits if they became numbers.
Why split merged cells before sorting or filtering?
Excel keeps the value of a merged range only in its top-left cell, so the other rows look empty to sorting, filters, pivot tables and VLOOKUP. Split merged cells and fill them in puts the value into every cell of the range, so a region or a date merged down a column appears on every row. The result tells you how many merged ranges were split.
