About Online Excel Editor
Edit Excel files in this online Excel editor when you are away from your own computer, when a colleague sends a sheet to your phone, or when a converted file needs one last fix before it goes out. Open an XLSX or CSV file, or start from a blank sheet or a template, and you get a grid that works the way Excel does: type in a cell or in the formula bar, drag the fill handle to continue a series, pick cells with Shift and the arrow keys, copy and paste with Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V, and undo with Ctrl+Z.
More than 150 everyday functions are worked out as you type, among them SUM, IF, VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, COUNTIFS, TEXT and DATEDIF. While you write a formula its arguments are shown and every reference is coloured on the grid, and a click on a cell, even on another sheet, puts its address into the formula. Seven sections on the left hold every command: style, rows and columns, formulas, data, the toolbox, charts and printing, each opening beside the grid so the cells you are working on stay in sight. If you can't remember where something is, press Ctrl+K and type its name.
The toolbox does the everyday tidying in the same window: merge several sheets or files into one table matched by their headers, split a table by a column's values or every so many rows (into new sheets, or a ZIP of workbooks), remove duplicate rows, compare two sheets cell by cell and mark what changed, clean up stray spaces, hidden characters and numbers stored as text, summarise by category with formulas that follow the data, swap rows and columns, and split text into columns. It finds the table by itself: a title above it and a total row below it are left out of sorting, removing duplicates and splitting, and the total's formula is updated when rows go. XLSX and CSV files are opened and saved in your browser, so the data never leaves your device. XLS and ODS files are converted to XLSX on our server first.
A result from another tool opens here too. After PDF to Excel or Merge Excel, click Edit online on the result to fix it before downloading.
How to use Online Excel Editor
- 1Open a spreadsheet
Click Open Excel or CSV, drop a file on the page, or pick New blank sheet or one of the templates.
- 2Edit the cells
Type in a cell, double-click to change it, or use the formula bar. Right-click (long-press on a phone) for rows, columns, sorting and more.
- 3Format and organise
The everyday formats are along the top; the sections on the left (at the bottom on a phone) hold rows, formulas, data, charts and printing, and the toolbox merges, splits, dedupes and compares. Press Ctrl+K to search for any command.
- 4Save your work
Click Save to download the XLSX, or use the arrow beside it for CSV or PDF. Paper, orientation, margins and a header repeated on every page are set in the Print section.
Why use Cubfile for this
- Formulas as in Excel
Over 150 functions with argument hints, coloured references, point-and-click addresses and cross-sheet formulas, all recalculated as you type.
- Tidy up in one window
Merge, split, dedupe, compare, clean, summarise, transpose and split text into columns from the toolbox, each showing its range and result before it runs.
- Finds your table
Titles, headers and total rows are told apart, so sorting, filtering, deduping and splitting touch only the data rows and totals follow; select cells to use others.
- Formatting that stays
Fonts, fills, borders, alignment, number formats, merged cells, column widths, frozen panes and print settings are kept when you save the XLSX.
- Made for phones too
Tap to pick a cell, double-tap to type, drag the round handles to select and pinch to zoom; turned sideways, the sections move to the left and the grid gets more room.
- Private by design
XLSX and CSV files never leave your browser, and unsaved work is kept as a draft in this browser until you save the XLSX.
