About Protect Excel
Password protect Excel workbooks that hold salaries, customer data, budgets or anything else that shouldn't be read by whoever finds the attachment. Upload the XLSX, enter the password twice and download an encrypted copy. Excel asks for the password before it shows a single cell. If the workbook is too large to attach, shrink it with Compress Excel before adding the password.
Encryption uses AES-256, the standard Excel applies with File > Info > Protect Workbook > Encrypt with Password, so the recipient doesn't need anything special. This is an open password that protects the whole file, which is different from sheet protection. Your password is used only while the task runs and then deleted from our records. Nobody can recover a lost password, so keep it somewhere safe. If the protection is ever no longer needed, Unlock Excel removes it, as long as you have the password.
How to use Protect Excel
- 1Upload the XLSX
Click Choose file or drop the workbook. Only XLSX files can be encrypted here.
- 2Set the password
Type it in Set a password and again in Repeat password.
- 3Click Protect Excel
The workbook is encrypted in an isolated process. Files that already have an open password are turned away.
- 4Share it safely
Download the copy ending in _protected.xlsx and send the password by a different route than the file.
Why use Cubfile for this
- Standard Excel encryption
AES-256 with SHA-512 key hashing, the scheme current Excel writes itself, so it opens in Excel on Windows and Mac.
- Everything inside is locked
All sheets, charts, pictures and document properties are inside the encrypted package.
- Password gone after use
The password you enter is removed from our records as soon as the task is done.
- Your original untouched
The encrypted copy is a new file with _protected in its name.
