About Change Image DPI
Change image DPI when a print shop, a journal or an application form asks for 300 DPI and your file says 72, and see at once how large it will print. With Only the DPI (pixels stay the same), DPI is just a label in the file that tells programs how large to print it: choose 72, 96, 150, 300, 350 or 600, the new value is written in, and the result tells you the print size, for example 10.2 × 6.8 cm at 300 DPI. For JPG and PNG only the header is edited, so the image data stays byte for byte the same and nothing is recompressed. JPGs get both the JFIF density and the EXIF resolution updated, and TIFFs are saved again losslessly.
When the print size itself matters, for a 10 × 15 cm print, an A4 poster or a picture for a frame, choose Resize for a print size and enter Print width, Print height or both in centimeters. The picture is resampled to that size at your DPI, so 10 × 15 cm at 300 DPI means 1181 × 1772 pixels, and the result tells you the pixels and the print size. If both are set and the picture's shape differs, Fit inside keeps it whole within that size, Fill and crop fills it and trims the edges, and Stretch fills it by distorting. Print size is always pixels divided by DPI, so a photo 3000 pixels wide prints 10 inches, about 25 cm, wide at 300 DPI.
