About Markdown to Word
Markdown to Word is for when your writing lives in Markdown (.md) but your reader lives in Word: a README a manager wants to comment on, notes from Obsidian or Typora, meeting minutes, or an answer from an AI chat that needs to become a document. Paste the Markdown, or upload .md, .markdown or .txt files or a ZIP of your notes folder so the pictures come along, and download a DOCX. The Markdown is read the way our Markdown to PDF reads it: front matter becomes the title, author and date at the top, strikethrough, highlights, task boxes and bare links come out right, common formulas show real symbols, and pictures from the folder or from public web addresses are placed in the document. When the commented document comes back, Word to Markdown turns it into Markdown again.
In Word the result behaves like a document written there. Footnotes become real Word footnotes at the foot of their page, headings use Word's Heading styles, and Contents list adds a Word contents field that fills in the headings and page numbers when the file opens. Page numbers in the footer, on by default, prints Page 3 of 12 at the foot of every page. Code sits in a shaded box, coloured by language and left out of spelling checks, and table header rows are shaded and repeated on every page, with each column aligned as the Markdown says. Text size makes the type smaller or larger, and Number the headings under More options puts 1, 1.1 and so on before the headings. Several notes become one document, each starting on a new page. A document for each note is a VIP choice. With My Word template, a VIP feature, you upload a .docx or .dotx and the result takes its fonts, heading styles, margins, header and footer, such as a company letterhead or a university's thesis format.
How to use Markdown to Word
- 1Paste or upload
Choose Paste text and paste your Markdown, or Upload a file for .md, .markdown or .txt files, or a ZIP of the notes folder with its pictures.
- 2Click Markdown to Word
Tick Contents list if you want one, as Page numbers in the footer is already on. The DOCX is then built in an isolated process on our server.
- 3Download the document
Pasted text comes back as document.docx, while an uploaded file keeps its name.
