About DOC to DOCX
DOC to DOCX conversion is for Word files from before 2007: old contracts, archived reports, templates that have been reused for years. Current Word versions open them in Compatibility Mode, and some upload forms and online tools accept only DOCX. Upload the .doc and download the same document in the newer format, named like the original with a .docx ending.
DOCX is Word's default format today and the one other word processors exchange with Word most easily. It's also what our other Word tools, such as Split Word, Compress Word and Protect Word, expect, so converting first opens the door to those. No Office installation is needed, and the conversion works the same way on a phone as on a desktop.
