Pages to Word: questions and answers

Why can't Word open my .pages file?
Pages is Apple's own format, and Microsoft Word doesn't read it. Converting gives you a DOCX that Word opens normally. Converters for other formats, such as ODT, RTF and Markdown, are in Document Converter.
Will the layout look the same after Pages to Word conversion?
The aim is an editable document. Pages and Word handle fonts and layout differently, so documents built like posters or newsletters are worth a careful look afterwards.
Can I convert Pages to Word on my phone?
