About HTML to Markdown

HTML to Markdown helps when content from a website, a CMS export or an email template has to move into a docs site, a wiki, a README or a note app. Paste the HTML or open an .html file, and clean Markdown appears as you go, ready to copy or save as an .md file. To go from Markdown back to HTML, use Markdown to HTML.

Headings, paragraphs, bold, italic, strikethrough, links, images, block quotes, nested lists, tables and code blocks with their language are converted. Scripts, styles, iframes and SVG are removed, and characters that mean something in Markdown are escaped so your text stays text. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded and it never counts toward your daily tasks.

Why use Cubfile for this

  • Tables become pipe tables

HTML tables turn into Markdown tables, with line breaks inside cells kept as br tags.

  • Nested lists handled

Lists inside lists are indented correctly, numbered or bulleted.

  • Junk removed

Scripts, styles, iframes and inline SVG are dropped before converting.

  • Private and unlimited

Nothing leaves your browser, and it doesn't use any of your daily tasks.

FAQ

HTML to Markdown: questions and answers

Is my HTML sent to a server when I convert HTML to Markdown?
No. The conversion happens in your browser, so the code stays on your device. That makes it fine for internal pages and unpublished drafts.
Does HTML to Markdown keep links and images?
Yes. Links become [text](url), and images become Markdown image links with their original addresses. Links that would run JavaScript are dropped.
Can I convert a whole web page by its address?
Not here, so paste the page's HTML instead. You can copy it with your browser's View source, or save the page as an .html file and load it with Open file. If a Word document would do, HTML to Word accepts a web address directly.
What happens to styling and layout?
Markdown has no colors, fonts or columns, so those are dropped. Structure, emphasis and links are what carry over.
Is the HTML to Markdown converter free to use?
Yes, and without limits. Browser-based tools don't count toward the daily tasks, so you can convert as often as you like.
