About Online Word Editor
This online Word editor is for a contract to change on the road, a notice a colleague sent that needs two more lines, or a converted document whose layout needs a touch before it goes out. Open a .docx file, or start from a blank page or one of the templates, and write as you always do – Ctrl+B for bold, Ctrl+Z to undo, Ctrl+S to save it as Word. The usual shortcuts work.
The strip over the page holds the everyday formatting: paragraph style, font, size, bold and italic, colours, alignment, lists and line spacing. Everything else is in the ten sections on the left, each opening beside the page: Styles has Heading 1–4, title, subtitle, quote, code and caption, and whole-document looks (business, report, a double-spaced paper); Insert puts in tables, pictures, links, page breaks, a table of contents, symbols, today's date or a whole other document; Table adds and removes rows and columns, merges and splits cells, sets shading and borders, or makes it a three-line table; Page sets the paper (any size you type, too), orientation, margins, header and footer, page numbers and a watermark. Can't find something? Press Alt+/ and type its name, or type “/” on an empty line to find what to put in. At the start of a paragraph, “# ”, “- ” and “1. ” become a heading, bullets and numbers.
Jobs that used to take several tools are done in the same window: find and replace many pairs at once, count the words, compare with another version and see each word added or taken out, delete empty lines and blank pages, join broken lines, split the document into one file per chapter, and save all its pictures. Paragraphs you pick, or the whole document, can be machine-translated too – with the translation under each paragraph you get a two-language version.
Word files, web pages, Markdown and text are opened and saved in your browser: the document doesn't leave your device, and changes not yet saved stay as a draft in this browser only. ODT, RTF, PDF and old .doc files are turned into Word on our server before they open; PDF and page pictures, reading the text in a photo and translating use the server too, and the page asks you first each time. A document made with PDF to Word opens here with the Edit online button on its result.
How to use Online Word Editor
- 1Open a document
Click “Open a document” or drop a file on the page – .docx, and .odt .rtf .pdf .txt .md .html – or start a blank document or one of the templates (notice, request, meeting minutes, weekly report, work summary, CV, letter, employment letter, resignation letter).
- 2Edit it
Type and change the text right on the page. The strip on top sets the font, size, bold, colour, alignment and lists; the sections on the left (at the foot on a phone) hold styles, paragraph, insert, table, page and more.
- 3Lay out the pages
In Page choose the paper and margins and add a header, footer, page numbers or a watermark; in Styles give the whole document a look in one click.
- 4Save it
Click Export at the top right, choose Word, PDF, web page, Markdown, text or pictures, name the file and download it. Ctrl+S saves it as Word straight away.
Why use Cubfile for this
- Pages as they will print
The pages are shown at their real paper size, with the header, footer, page number and watermark on each; a paragraph that would cross a page's foot moves to the next page.
- One window for the whole job
Replacing many words, counting, comparing, removing empty lines and pages, joining lines, splitting, saving pictures and translating – no uploading from tool to tool.
- Formatting kept when saved
Fonts, sizes, colours, heading styles, list numbers, tables with merged cells and shading, pictures, links, the contents, header and footer, page numbers, watermark and paper stay in the Word file.
- Works on a phone
On a phone the text reads as one column; while typing, a strip over the keyboard has bold, headings, lists and undo, and the bar at the foot opens styles, paragraph, insert, page and export.
- The shortcuts you know
Ctrl+S, Ctrl+P, Ctrl+F, Ctrl+H, Ctrl+K, Ctrl+B/I/U, Ctrl+Alt+1–3 for headings, Tab in tables and lists; Ctrl+/ lists them all.
- Nothing uploaded
Word documents are opened and saved in your browser; changes not yet saved are kept as a draft in this browser and cleared once you save.
