About Excel to JSON
Excel to JSON is for developers and analysts who get data as a spreadsheet but need it in code: seed data for an app, a mock API response, translations kept in a sheet, a product list for a static site. Upload an XLSX, XLS or ODS file and each row becomes a JSON object, with the header row supplying the keys.
The header is found automatically. A title row above the table is skipped, blank headers become column_1, column_2 and so on, and repeated names get a _2 suffix. Numbers stay numbers, empty cells become null, dates are written as ISO strings like 2024-03-01, and formulas give their results. A workbook with several sheets becomes one object with a key per sheet. If you'd rather have plain arrays, pick List of rows (arrays).
How to use Excel to JSON
- 1Upload the spreadsheet
Choose or drop your .xlsx, .xls or .ods file, with the column names in the row above the data.
- 2Choose the JSON shape
List of objects (one per row) is the default; List of rows (arrays) keeps the grid as nested arrays.
- 3Click Excel to JSON
The workbook is read on our server and turned into indented UTF-8 JSON.
- 4Copy or download
Copy the JSON from the result box, or download it as a .json file named after your workbook.
Why use Cubfile for this
- Header row as keys
Column names become property names, and a title above the table isn't mistaken for the header.
- Types kept
Numbers and true/false values stay unquoted, and empty cells are null rather than empty strings.
- Every sheet included
Several sheets become one object keyed by sheet name, so nothing is silently dropped.
- Readable output
Two-space indentation, with accented and Chinese characters written as they are.
