Decrypt a File: Encryption and Decryption for .cfenc Files

Turn a .cfenc file back into the original with your password, on your own device.

or drop files here

Accepts ENC, CFENC

Runs in your browser. Your files never leave your device.

About Decrypt File

Complete the encryption and decryption round trip: decrypt a file that was locked with our Encrypt File tool. It could be one you encrypted yourself or one a colleague sent you. Choose the .cfenc file, type the password and your browser restores the original, with its name and file type, ready to open. It works across devices, so you can encrypt on a Windows laptop and decrypt on an iPhone.

Decryption happens entirely on your device, so the file and the password never reach our servers. Every piece of the file is checked as it's decrypted. A wrong password is reported straight away, and a file that was cut short or changed along the way is flagged as damaged instead of producing garbage. Note that it opens only files made by Cubfile's Encrypt File, not .enc files from other programs.

How to use Decrypt File

  1. 1
    Choose the .cfenc file

Click Choose a .cfenc file or drop it on the page. Nothing is uploaded.

  2. 2
    Type the password

Enter the password used when the file was encrypted. Capitals, spaces and symbols must match exactly.

  3. 3
    Decrypt and download

Click Decrypt and download to decrypt the file. It's saved under the name it had before encryption.

Why use Cubfile for this

  • Private by design

The file and your password stay in your browser. Nothing is sent to our servers.

  • Gives back the real file

The name and type saved during encryption are restored, so contract.pdf.cfenc turns back into contract.pdf.

  • Clear error messages

You'll see Wrong password, or The file is damaged or incomplete, instead of a broken download.

  • Any device, any browser

Encrypt on one computer and decrypt on another, or on a phone. No app and no account needed.

FAQ

Decrypt File: questions and answers

Which files can I decrypt here?
Files encrypted with Cubfile's Encrypt File tool. They end in .cfenc, or .enc if someone renamed them. Files from other encryption programs use different formats, and the tool will tell you it can't read them. Password-protected ZIP archives are a different case: open those with Unzip Online.
I forgot the password. Can you decrypt the file for me?
No. The file and the password never leave your device, and the password isn't stored anywhere, so there's no reset. Without it, the AES-256 encryption can't be undone.
Why does it say the file is damaged or incomplete?
The file was probably cut short during download, or changed after it was encrypted. Your password was accepted, so ask the sender for a fresh copy and try again. If the sender shares a SHA-256 value, File Hash Checker can confirm the new copy is intact.
Is it free to decrypt a file?
Yes. Decrypting runs in your browser, so it doesn't count toward the daily task limit, and you don't need an account.
How do I decrypt a file on my phone?
Open this page in Safari or Chrome on the phone, choose the .cfenc file from Files or Downloads and type the password. The decrypted file is saved to your downloads.
Share Decrypt File with a friendIt runs in any browser, and they can try it without signing up.
