Broken Link Checker – Test Every Link on a Page

Check every link on a page and see which ones are broken, redirected or blocked.

About Broken Link Checker

Dead links frustrate visitors and waste crawl time. Run this broken link checker on a page after a site move, on a resources page that links out to dozens of sites, or on a post that has been online for years. Enter the URL and click Start checking. It runs as a queued job with a progress bar and doesn't count as a daily task.

Each link gets a HEAD request, or a normal GET when a server refuses HEAD, 10 at a time and no more than 4 per host. Images, scripts and stylesheets are checked too unless you untick that option. For every link you see the status code, a state (broken, redirected, blocked when the site answers 401, 403, 429 or 999, or OK), the final URL, anchor text, internal or external, any error and the response time. Broken links come first, and the table can be filtered and saved as CSV. Up to 150 links per page are checked, or 500 with VIP. To follow a redirect hop by hop, use the Redirect Checker.

FAQ

Broken Link Checker: questions and answers

What counts as a broken link?
A link that answers with an error such as 404 or 500, or that can't be reached at all, for example because the domain doesn't exist or the connection times out. Answers of 401, 403, 429 and 999 are listed as blocked instead, because the site is refusing automated checks rather than missing the page.
Why are some links marked as blocked?
Some sites, LinkedIn among them, answer automated requests with 999 or 403 even when the page works fine in a browser. Open blocked links yourself to confirm.
Can it check my whole website?
No, it checks one page at a time. For a list of addresses, such as the pages in your sitemap, paste them into the HTTP Status Code Checker. The Sitemap Checker lists the URLs in a sitemap and exports them as CSV.
How many links can it check?
Up to 150 links per page, or 500 with VIP. If a page has more, the first ones are checked and the report says how many were found.
Is the broken link checker free?
Yes. It needs no sign-up, doesn't use your daily tasks, and the results aren't stored.
Share Broken Link Checker with a friendIt runs in any browser, and they can try it without signing up.
