About CAD Version Converter
A CAD version converter fixes a familiar problem: you send a DWG and the other person's AutoCAD reports that the drawing file is not valid. Each AutoCAD opens drawings saved in its own DWG format or an older one, so a file in 2018 format won't open in AutoCAD 2010. Upload the file, pick the release they use and download a copy saved in that format.
The default is AutoCAD 2007, which every release since then can open; 2013, 2010, 2004, 2000 and 2018 are on the list too. Save as keeps DWG or writes a DXF of the same release, and DXF files can go in as well. Objects that only exist in newer releases may be simplified in an older format, so check the result before sending it.
How to use CAD Version Converter
- 1Upload a DWG or DXF
Choose the drawing or drop it onto the page. A free account handles files up to 50 MB.
- 2Pick the target version
In AutoCAD version, choose the release the recipient uses, from 2018 down to 2000.
- 3Choose DWG or DXF
Leave Save as on DWG, or switch to DXF for another CAD program, then click CAD Version Converter.
- 4Download the copy
Send it on. It opens in the release you picked and in every newer one.
Why use Cubfile for this
- Six target releases
AutoCAD 2018, 2013, 2010, 2007, 2004 and 2000, for moving files down or up.
- Save as DWG or DXF
Keep the result as a DWG, or write a DXF of the same release for programs that prefer it.
- Opens in older AutoCAD
A file saved for 2007 opens in AutoCAD 2007 and later, so an older installation stops rejecting it.
- Nothing to install
No AutoCAD needed. The conversion runs from any browser, even on a phone.
