About Scan to PDF
Scan to PDF is for when there's no scanner around: a signed form to send back, receipts for an expense claim, notes from a whiteboard, a document at a relative's house. Take photos with your phone and upload them. The page edges in each photo are found, the background is cut away and the perspective is corrected, so a page shot at an angle comes out square, and with Turn pages the right way up on, photos taken sideways or upside down are read and turned. Shadows and the color cast of a lamp are taken out as well, so the paper comes out white on the shadowed side too, not gray.
Look sets the clean-up. Enhanced color brightens the paper and darkens the ink, Grayscale does the same in shades of gray, and Black & white document follows the page, so a shadowed corner stays white and faint pencil stays, then saves each page as a sharp 1-bit image of about 20 KB instead of a blurry JPEG. Original leaves the photo as it is. Pages come out at 200 dpi, or 300 dpi in black and white, so prints stay sharp without a 12-megapixel photo turning into a 5 MB page. Choose A4, Letter or Same as the photo, and wide photos go on landscape pages. Tick Make it searchable (OCR) and the recognized text is laid invisibly over each page, so you can search the PDF and copy from it, with the text also as a TXT file. When you need to edit the text rather than keep a scan, Image to Word turns the same photos into a DOCX.
How to use Scan to PDF
- 1Photograph the pages
Lay each page on a darker surface and shoot from above, with the whole page in frame. A sideways shot is fine.
- 2Upload the photos
Click Choose files and pick them from your gallery. JPG, PNG, WEBP and HEIC all work; put them in page order. Up to 20 photos go in one task, 50 with VIP.
- 3Pick a look and size
Choose Enhanced color, Grayscale, Black & white document or Original and a page size, and tick Make it searchable (OCR) if you want to search the text.
- 4Scan to PDF
Click Scan to PDF and download the finished file, plus the TXT when you asked for the text.
Why use Cubfile for this
- Cropped, straightened, upright
Page edges are found, the perspective corrected, and sideways or upside-down pages turned; the result lists which ones.
- No shadows, no lamp tint
The paper comes out white even where a hand or a phone cast a shadow, and the yellow tint of a lamp is taken out.
- Crisp black and white
Black & white document follows the page, keeps faint pencil and a shadowed corner white, and saves about 20 KB a page.
- Searchable on request
Make it searchable (OCR) lays the recognized text invisibly over each page for search and copying, and adds it as a TXT.
