Online Voice Translator for Conversations

Talk across languages. Each person speaks, and the other sees and hears the translation.

About Voice Translator

Use the Voice Translator when you need to talk, not type: at a hotel desk, in a taxi, at a market stall, with a supplier on a video call or with relatives who speak another language. Choose your language and theirs, press the microphone on your side and speak. Your words appear as you say them, the translation shows underneath and is read aloud, and the other person answers with the microphone on their side.

Voice input and read-aloud use the speech features of your browser. They work in Chrome, Edge and Safari, and you can always type instead. The conversation stays on this page and isn't saved. For longer texts the Text Translator is quicker, and whole files go to the Document Translator.

How to use Voice Translator

  1. 1
    Choose both languages

Set the language you speak and the language of the person you're talking to.

  2. 2

Speak normally and your words appear as the browser hears them. You can also type and press Enter.

  3. 3
    Hear the translation

The translation shows in the conversation and is read aloud in the other language.

  4. 4
    Let them answer

The other person presses the microphone on their side, and their reply is translated back to you.

FAQ

Voice Translator: questions and answers

Which browsers support voice input?
Chrome, Edge and Safari, on computers and phones. Allow the microphone for this site when the browser asks. In Firefox, type instead; translation and read-aloud still work.
Is the Voice Translator free?
Yes. It shares the Text Translator's daily allowance of 30,000 characters for visitors, 100,000 for free accounts and 500,000 for VIP, which is hours of conversation.
Can it translate a whole phone call or meeting by itself?
No. It translates what one person says at a time, which keeps each translation accurate. Take turns with the two microphones.
Is my conversation recorded?
No. Your browser turns speech into text (Chrome uses Google's speech service for this), and we receive only the text to translate. The conversation disappears when you leave the page.
Why is the translation read with a different accent?
Read-aloud uses the voices installed on your device. When there's no voice for a language, the browser reads with another one; adding a voice for that language in your device settings fixes it.
Share Voice Translator with a friendIt runs in any browser, and they can try it without signing up.
